Waking up to an obnoxious, tacky, and vulgar scam artist called Trump
We wake up today engulfed in the racism, sexism, protectionism, xenophobia, and authoritarianism of Trump.
So — we begin again, after a two year vacation, and I’m remembering the opening scenes of the 50s movie called “A Summer Place” with the preparations for opening the beach house on the Maine coast for a season of vacationers. There’s a lot a scraping and painting and patching in an antique property. In Merida, pieces of 19th Century stucco ornamentation actually fall onto the sidewalk after a hard rain.
Two people have contacted me this morning with questions about immigrating to Mexico and buying property. My response in both cases was:
"I have never regretted my move to Mexico in 1980. I’ve screamed and lamented things that I didn’t understand about the culture. But that was my fault. I’ve had a higher standard of living here than I could ever have had in the US. Mexico has been good to me. Someday I’ll tell you the whole story.”
For your visual pleasure here’s the newest element of the team. His name is Joaquin, a former Pemex oil company employee, now our neighbor.
