Beethoven - Gershwin - Copland

Four blocks from the house - an Italianate Temple to the Arts. It was Geder's first time to go to a theatre, to hear a live symphony orchestra, and to know Beethoven. He appeared to be in shock when we sat and found the enormous chandelier at eye level.

An exciting and electric performance for me, because I had never heard Beethoven's First Piano Concerto. The mind drifted during the Copland Ballet Dances, but the Gershwin with its active percussion parts caused us to strain, as the stage appeared to be a board game from the height of the fourth level gallery. The sound was lush and we recognised our friend, Toño, the cellist.
