Driving around Mexico in the Seventies and Eighties, I never found the romantic, historic Colonial small hotel, a place which could fire my fantasies and inspire the imagination. Hotel Casa Mexilio is what happened when I decided to create my own.
La Taberna de Casa Mexilio was always here, if at times, sleeping, and could be revived by the arrival of a special friend or interesting guest. Styles change and so have we. This year’s incarnation of La Taberna includes three venues -- Green pool, garden and Old Kitchen -- Sophisticated 19th C Salon -- and finally the Rooftop Bar with the lights of Old Merida below and the Mayan Cosmos above.
Casa Mexilio, the hotel part, will re-open in June. Thirty-five years was a good run, and our three year sabbatical was the necessary treatment. Plans, updates, and special events will appear here in this blog.
