A CALENDAR OF FREE WEEKLY CULTURAL EVENTS IN DOWNTOWN MÉRIDA

Nowhere in the world, do I go or visit, that provides the constant, and mainly free, cultural events of such quality.

 

Monday:

 

VAQUERIA on Monday evenings is typical Yucatan dance, in the street, in front of the city hall building on the main plaza.  

 

Starts at 9:00 p.m.

 

 

 

Tuesday:

 

Musical Remembrances. It is an event aimed primarily at adult audiences. It is dance, with a real dance band, presented at 20:30 in the park of Santiago on 59th Street at 72, just two blocks from Casa Mexilio.  On this night the park is festive, with marquees and churos and vendors.

 

 

 

Wednesday:

 

-The Historical Tour of the General Cemetery starts at 8 pm. To get to this place locate it on Google Maps. The address is 89th Street Number 538 at 66.

 

-Night of the Cultures. This event is accompanied by a video mapping. It starts at 8:30 p.m. at the Casa de Montejo, located at 63rd between 62 and 60 Streets.  Actors and dancers tell the story of the conquer of Yucatan and his home.

 

Thursday:

 

Serenade at Saint Lucia Park. This event is dedicated to the music of trova yucateca. The event starts at 9:00 pm in the park located on Calle 60 at 55, two blocks North of the Cathedral of Merida.

 

In addition to the Serenades, along parts of Calle 60 you can dine bistro style on the streets, which are closed to traffic.

 

There’s video mapping «Sacred Stones» at 20:30 at the Cathedral of Mérida.

 

Saturday:

 

Ball game: Pok ta pok. It is a representation of the Mayan ball game. This event starts at 8:30 p.m. in front of the Merida Cathedral.

 

Mexican night. This event is a real party to Mexican traditions and you can enjoy even Mariachi music. This event starts at 8:00 p.m. at the southern end of Paseo de Montejo located at 47th Street.

 

Sunday:  A full day of varied activities, most clustered around the Main Plaza.
